Britt Terrell arranged and moderated a panel discussion covering how to finance lower middle market & middle market companies with a thin equity capital structure. The panel of experts included Tom Affolter of Victory Capital, Christian Donohue of Tennenbaum Capital, Jeff Fier of Garrison Investment Group and Christopher Roden of C3 Capital. The panel discussed Unitranche / 2nd lien / Mezzanine corporate debt financing for independent sponsors, closely held or thinly capitalized companies and those companies simply lacking a well capitalized PE sponsor. Topics included acquisition financing, recapitalizations & special situations. The debt fund panelists are focused on “special situations” to solve more challenging financing needs. Whether the debt funds are public BDCs, SBICs, or private debt funds, the debt funds are looking to solve financing challenges and fund transactions. The Conference was well attended by private equity and finance executives.
